Should We Ban the Pit Bull?

From 1982 to 2013 pit bulls have been responsible for most of the dog attacks in the United States. People are starting to say that we should get rid of this breed for once and for all, but that is not the right way to go, not only because it would be inhumane but also because these dogs can be trained for good. There are a lot of people that think that the pit bull should just be euthanize or put away in some isolated place, where it can't harm anybody. People there are also those positive people who think there is a better way to treat the pit bull. In the article Get Rid of Pit Bulls the author says, "Pit Bull lovers righteously defend the "misunderstood" breed, but Charles Leerhsen, whose dog was recently attacked by one, says they are natural-born killers." These dogs can attack their owners, that is what makes people concern.

The "Breed Specific" legislation (BSL) is a law that regulates or bans certain dogs in the hope for reducing dog attacks. According to the ASPCA, "Some city/municipal governments have enacted breed-specific laws. However the problem of dangerous dogs will not be remedied by the "quick fix" of breed-specific laws or, as they truly be called, breed-discriminatory laws." As of this law there many other dogs that are regulated not only the pit bull. These shows that there other types if breed that are dangerous as much as the pit bull, not only because of their reputation but because of the way they behave in public. "Prince George's county ,MD, spends $250,000 annually to in force the ban on Pit Bulls. In 2003, a study conducted by the county on the ban's effectiveness noted that "public safety is not improved as a result of [the ban]." There is no truthful evidence that this method is working to reduce public safety from dog attacks.

Even by having regulations on any type of breed there will be still dog attacks. And people instead of following the law they try to hide their beloved pets by keeping them in home without letting them go outside. There are also those good owners who have a dog that is regulated but their dog has not done anything to harm others, or it has not attacked any others people but they still get into trouble for keeping them with them. People also tend to not care about the ban of their dogs, so they usually fake the identity of their dog's breed so that they don't get regulated or taken away. Either way there are always going to be dog attacks, but by having responsible people who train their dogs to be good there will be less attacks.
